5 Reasons Why I Love My Kindle

Right, so over the years I have become quite the advocate for the Kindle. That is the Kindle Paperwhite to be exact. But the question is what is the better option? The Kindle or the traditional Paperback?

I have to be honest, part of me feels silly to compare the two. In my true biased opinion, nothing really beats the feel of an actual book. The feeling of turning each page as you delve deeper. The crinkles that appear as the book ages with you. The companionship you develop with that book that means the world to you. The book that reaches every corner of your soul. You just don’t get that feeling when you use a Kindle.

However, on the flip side, there are some pluses that make me such a fan of the Kindle. So here are 5 reasons why I love my Kindle:

1. Freedom of Space

I first got my Kindle back while I was at university. Being a book lover I took the majority of my books with me. Now, I had a decent amount of books at the time so this was definitely a bit of a pain. Furthermore, I was starting to lose space to keep my books. My collection was growing and growing and it was just not practical for me to have so many books and not live in a mansion. On my Kindle alone there is now over 200 books. I just did not have space for that kind of collection. As a result, the need for space was the first problem that led me towards the forbidden digital path.

2. Travelling

The second reason was that I was regularly finishing books on my travels and had no other book with me to read. A simple resolution to this would have been to carry another book however, there was just not enough space in my trusted man bag for all my manly accessories.

3. Flexibility

The previous point leads quite well into this one. There were often times where I wanted to read different books depending on the mood that I was in or depending on the particular situation that was most important in my life.

For the most part I read the same book all the way to the end. However, there are times when this is just not the case and I was lacking the flexibility with my paperbacks to switch while I was on the go. This was especially important when just starting a new book that I eventually knew that I was not going to read until the end.

4. Highlighting

I generally read a lot of Non-Fiction books. In fact less than 1% of my books are probably fiction.

I generally read non-fiction books on entrepreneurship, personal development, autobiographies, career development, the music business, personal finance and more. The reason for this is I often use my books as trusty guides. Plus I love learning.

What I started doing with my paperbacks was adding tab like stickers that allowed me to quickly go back to areas that I found useful. This meant that I did not have to read the fluff in the book each time I read it again.

This was a good idea, but it really started to make my paperbacks look unattractive with all these tabs popping out of it. And then voila like magic here comes the Kindle with a great highlighting option, note option and search option. This enabled me to cycle through my books with speed and without the extra tabs sticking out. Score!

5. Reading in Bed

There are four occasions where I usually read. When travelling, when in the toilet, when waiting somewhere or when in bed. On the first three occasions paperback is fine. However, when you don’t want a lamp on and are conscious of the light rays at night that make it hard to sleep (Do some research on it). The prospect of having the non-offensive light from the Kindle Paperwhite is a dream come true. Quite literally really.

There are many more reasons that I could bring up as to why I love my Kindle, but these 5 reasons are more than sufficient for me to be a Kindle advocate.

Thank you Amazon!!

What are your thoughts? Do you love paperback too much to turn away? Are you a converted Kindle lover? Let me know in the comments.
