Book Review: Your Best Year Yet by Jinny Ditzler

It’s that time of the year where the New Years Resolutions begin, we start to reflect on our previous year and we make plans for the next one.

This year would mark the 7th year that I have used the Best Year Yet Plan for my yearly goals. It is also the second time since I first read the book that I have read it again completely to reflect in full.

I found out about this book in my first year of university. I was determined to do well therefore, I made sure that I looked at all of the required reading for my modules plus the suggested reading.

Your Best Year Yet was one of those suggestions.

I had done yearly plans in the past however, what I liked about this plan was that it was more than just about goals.

As part of the plan you reflect on your achievements, disappointments, limitations etc and focus on:

  • 3 new guidelines that you will follow
  • 1 new paradigm to overcome your limitations
  • 1 major focus for the year
  • 10 top goals for the different roles you play in your life

Here is an example of what I did for my first one:

The importance is balance and growth. As with any plan you need to be prepared for things to change. However, what this plan helps you to do is focus your aim on what is most important.

Some of my favourite excerpts are:

“Mistakes are the portals of discovery”

“Because the problem for all of us is not a lack of ability. It is a matter of focusing the ability we have on things which matter most to us, while at the same time renewing our belief in ourselves.”

If you are looking for a new approach to making sure that this is your best year yet, I would definitely recommend trying this out. You can buy the book on amazon here
